Where we are free to talk about the hard, the fun, and the beautiful of our work week.
This week was a lot of fun because I’ve been building on my strengths. I’ve been doing the soft sell on my teleseminar How to Kick Butt at Work and Be Happy Too. It’s hard to find the balance between encouraging people to buy a good product and begging.
I want 10,000 people to sign up for this amazing teleseminar, but I know that won’t happen. It’s all about baby steps.
Each day is exciting, especially when someone new signs up. I know my marketing is working.
I do have to work on letting my upset feelings go on the days when nobody signs up
Let’s begin…
Hard
Finding the marketing balance.
I don’t want people to drop from my newsletter or to stop following this blog because I keep talking about my teleseminar.
The best way to find this balance is to go with my gut, throw it out there and test. One person dropped off my newsletter list because they believed that I was sending out too many notices. I’m sending out a notice every few weeks, not every day. Jeez.
No one told me that creating a work happiness business would be easy. I think that if it was easy I would probably have given up. What’s the point without a challenge?
Fun
Relaxing with editing my book.
I’ve been guilty of rushing to get my work done. This week I’ve been applying my “Theme of the Week” for January. I’ve put on some good music and chipped away at each section.
The editing process has actually been enjoyable. A big step forward in my career/personal development.
Beautiful
After a cold snap my wife and I took our little boy and dog for a walk. I was in shorts and t-shirt. Texas has crazy January weather.
We mozied, walked, strolled, and ran throughout the two hours that we were outside. I didn’t want to go back home. It was just one of those “so lucky to be alive” type of days.
What about you?
What has been hard, fun and beautiful in your life? I’ll see you in the comment section.

If you enjoyed this post then you will probably like this one too:
Hard: Being honest with my paid subscribers and hoping they would like what i had to say.
Fun: Writing about Jack Bauer for a future blog post…Jack is my hero.
Beautiful: Hearing my wife talk about me to her friends and being proud that I’m making it. Such a big corner to turn.
Hi Karl,
You are so open and authentic, I just can’t resist your messages.
So I clicked the link for your workshop and learned about the content and prices, but I still don’t know when and where it is! Okay, Feb 23, and I’m assuming it’s by telephone or webinar. But I’m in Hong Kong so the time zone is very important. I can’t just assume it will be during my waking hours! Can you tell us a bit more please?
Cheers,
Angela
Oh Karl that walk sounds so nice! We actually have some sun here today, but it is freezing! Now we have that cold snap I think 🙂 LOL, except that it is probably 10 times stronger this far north.
Hard for me, was working under a deadline again. Jeez, I know I do not to work that way, it just seems so unnatural 😉 I have a “client” waiting for some course material I started putting together last year for the curriculum that they would like to purchase this year.
Fun, hot yoga! I think that is going to be my fun all winter!
Beautiful, a story about compassion, actually two, that a friend sent me. I was in tears at how much beauty there exists in our world in places where we least expect it.
Hi Karl! It’s great how you broke this down – this way you can look for ALL that’s going on, not just what is perceived as a struggle.
What’s hard for me is focus. I’m doing a re-write, and I love it, enjoy it, etc. but have so many things also calling me, tugging on my heart strings – my food pantry “job” for instance and I want to give more time to it. As for the fun and beautiful, I see it everywhere and in everyone – especially love nature, even in the zero degree weather.
Hey Karl,
I have to agree with Evita, that walk sounds pretty sweet right about now (as I bundle up just to go to the car!).
Hard: Working through some phone issues.
Fun: Playing “Life” as a family on Wednesday night – everyone really got into the game and had a lot of fun with it!
Beautiful: Birthday and anniversary celebrations. I am in awe of life today!
Thanks so much for the link, Karl! You are a great friend!
Karl,
Hard, technology, the simple things I miss or don’t get make me want to give up.
Fun, celebrated my friends birthday at a great restaurant. Watched a movie with two girlfriends last night.
Skyped with my daughter and grandson.
Beautiful. Listening to another daughter tell me she won $750 dollars from a 50/50 raffle (her husband was unemployed for 5 months and is now working for 2/3 of his previous pay).
Being alive, healthy and loved…beautiful!
Hi Nathan, Being honest is hard. We want so much for them to be ok with the message. It’s nice to hear when people we care about are proud of us.
Hi Angela, Thank you. I emailed you with some more details about the teleseminar. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me.
Hi Evita, Deadlines are so difficult. I also like to work and finish on my own terms. Shame most business interactions don’t work that way. 🙂 Hot Yoga is great stuff. Good way to keep warm.
Hi Suzen, A re-write is tough, especially when the heart calls out to other things. Nature is so wonderful. It’s always me go to stress reliever.
Hi Evita, Phone issues are always a pain in the butt. Playing board games as a family is a wonderful way to hang out. Hope you won. Congrats on 16 years.
Hi Tess, Technology is hard for most of us, me included. It’s all about baby steps. You’ll get there. You have so many fun and beautiful things going on I don’t know what to comment on. You are one lucky person. 🙂
Hi Karl, you sound like you are keeping yourself fairly busy. That’s good to hear. I have been on a similar road myself – just began writing an ebook. Otherwise, mostly focusing on continuing to write quality content for my blog, networking with others, exploring Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit.
On my free time, watching movies with the family and stuffing my face with delicious food. 🙂
Hi Karl — I can definitely relate when you talked about being disappointed on those days when people don’t sign up for your seminar — I’ve gotten into the same rut before about my Amazon stats. 🙂 It’s useful for me to remember that I may never get the chance to experience this part of the process again, with all its curiosity and uncertainty.
Hi Karl,
Your teleseminar sounds like it’s going to be very informative and a lot of fun. (I guess I’ll find out on the 23rd!) I would imagine that trying to find the right balance between promoting a seminar/product/service without feeling like you’re pressuring people or begging people. Just a thought, but do you think maybe people who are not “employees” somewhere might conclude that the workshop is not aimed at them? My thoughts are that even people who are between jobs (for whatever reason)or possibly self employed could still benefit from what you intend to talk about.
Shorts and t-shirt weather in January? The mind boggles! 😉 It’s been very mild here (A little too mild for the Vancouver Olympic Committee’s liking–the snow is melting off the very mountains where many of the events are to be held in about 2 weeks!) but definitely not warm enough for shorts or t-shirts. I was just glad for a dry, sunny day when I moved on Monday. Here’s my hard, fun and beautiful summary for the week:
Hard: Dealing with the last details of my move while also coping with a horrendous cold that left my brain feeling like a piece of boiled wool. Also now that I can see how much of stuff actually came with me that I still have to sort through, it’s a bit overwhelming. Yikes!
Fun: Despite the fact that I had a miserable cold, both dance performances (the solo and the group routine) went really well. I loved watching other dancers’ choreographies, too–the creativity is just amazing.
Beautiful: Getting an email from a friend of mine whom I’ve known for 33 years (since grade 8) letting me know that I’m still one of her dearest friends.
Well, I’m going to avoid the boxes for a few hours and go hand out baked potatoes at SPUD patrol. Have a great weekend everyone.
I learned that if people drop off the list, they aren’t my ideal client. Better to have a quality list of people who really want what you have to offer.
That said:
Hard: Transitioning back from a few days away and having a busy week to come home to.
Fun: Helping out at my niece’s 6th birthday party yesterday.
Beautiful. Even though it’s super cold where I am the crispness of the air and blue of the sky is gorgeous.
