In engineering building 40, Google has a “pajama day.” This consists of other Googlers wearing pajamas at work. How cool would it be to have a day when everyone is dressed up in pajamas? Awesome, right?
Even if you are a bank, you can take a certain angle to these events that might get your customers talking about you. “Don’t sleep on your interest rate, get a XYZ CD.”
I don’t know if that would work, but it sure would be fun for the employees and the customers that walked into the branch.
I know that if my company did that I would tell my friends about the cool event. They might tell their friends and boom! You have a little word of mouth campaign going through your community.
Would your company go for a pajama day? If not, what could your company do to spice up a day?

Hi Karl,
Our company is employee-owned. And as part of that we have a committee at work to help people understand what it means to be owners, etc. The group acronym is SOCC. October is the national ESOP (Employee stock ownership plan) month. As part of that, a few years back - we had a crazy sock (a play on the name SOCC) day. That was a lot of fun - people wearing weird socks, socks outside their pants, etc.
Things like this are a fun way to get people involved in different ways - and are just simply fun. Good for morale. We could use more of these...
Thanks Karl!
The most leinant my company ever was is one day when we were moving dusty boxes we got to wear jeans. 🙂
Google is something else- of course if you work for yourself, everyday is pajama day. 🙂
Yes, the beauty of working for yourself is you can wear pajamas all day every day!
Still, Google must be a pretty cool place to work. They do let you go home at night too, right?
Pajama day sounds pretty wild. I wonder how they boot strapped it. There must have a been a core set of folks that were perfectly willing to stroll on in with their jammies.
Hi Lance, weird sock day is an excellent way to create some fun and not get people too uncomfortable. Maybe I should come up with some fun ways for people to get a little crazy at work.
Hi Jay, sounds like a pretty stuffy place to work. You should try something a little more tame. Try starting with Lance's idea, weird sock day, than try pajama day.
Hi Nathan, working for Google would be a trip. Develop some great ideas, learn some awesome techniques then go out and use those same concept with your own company.
Hi J.D., they must have had a employee talking about it before it finally took hold. I'm just glad that Google is cool with it and encourages such fun.
I work from home, so yes, some days you may just find me in pajamas.
