I’m a big believer in creativity at work. We need to expand outside our comfort zones to reach the good stuff. That’s why I draw. It forces me to find new angles on work happiness. How do you find new angles?
There are thousands of choices that we make in a day, consciously and unconsciously, but they usually boil down to two emotions.
Heart
and
Fear
We usually choose the safe. At least I do, but I do have my good days when the fear doesn’t seem so strong and I go with my heart.
In those magical moments, I know that I have potential to do great work. When the courage wears off, I cling to the joy that my courage overwhelmed my fear.
I’ve been working on leading with my heart. It’s not easy, but so worth it when I do.

It’s a great reminder how a compelling purpose or crusade can renew us and overwhelm fear.
Pain and pleasure … heart and fear … so simple, but so effective for thinking about our basic drivers.
I like how you boil life down to one simple choice. Really all it takes to choose love over fear is to be present and see the consequences. Workplaces are often so inauthentic that they tend to mask real folks just being real with one another. I’m happy someone like you is forcing the issue. Wake em up Karl!
New angles, new points of view, accepting others opinions without judging them…they force us to do hard work.At that precise moment, when I’m tempted to choose fear ,I try to breath deeply…leaving my mind blanck;then I can accept to choose heart, not fear.Leaving my comfort zone makes me feel more authentic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Oh how I heart the cartoon! I think what stood out about your teleseminar last evening was how you come from your heart…a true gift and rare in today’s world. But were changing all of that right?
Hi J.D., It’s amazing how something we really care about can override fear’s gripe on us.
Hi Tom, We forget the importance of love in the workplace. We don’t emphasis this enough. Thanks for the encouragement.
Hi Patricia, I love that you said, “Leaving my comfort zone makes me feel more authentic.” It’s so true. It shows us what is really important. Thank you for putting it in such a clear way.
Hi Tess, We are changing it one person at a time. And I love the effect we are having on everyone. We are lucky.
Karl – glad you like the video! Thanks for posting it
