Hard, Fun, and the Beautiful – Before it Gets Cold Edition

(Can’t see the video? Then try watching it at Work Happy Now – Hard Fun and The Beautiful – Before it Gets Cold Edition)

Where we are free to talk about the hard, the fun, and the beautiful of our work week.

Whenever I go away I can see time slipping by. I love going back to the place I grew up, but I feel like I fall farther behind on my dream while I am away. Dealing with these feelings is never easy.

So let’s get started.

Hard

Traveling. I went back home for a friend’s wedding. When a person is involved with a wedding there is a lot of chatting, hanging and talking. As the minutes tick by, I think about Work Happy Now and I worry about giving you more value. I know I can’t work all the time, but it just feels a little painful when I’m not working or spending time with Nikki and the kid.

Fall mosquitoes have come out in Texas because we are finally getting rain and all those little puddles are breeding grounds for those blood suckers.

Fun

A friend’s wedding. As much as I feel disrupted by a big event I still feel love for the new people that I meet. There are so many generous and caring people out there. Too often we get caught up in the bad and forget about how 99% of the people we meet are truly kind. We danced to the song “Brick House” and young women were strutting their stuff. That’s what weddings are all about: celebrating the relationships that we have with each other. A lot people say it’s all about the bride, but it’s all about the friendships.

Beautiful

Fall flowers. With all the rain we’ve been having it has become fertile ground for some beautiful flowers. There was a purple flower that pushed up and out of the earth that took my breath away. I stopped, knelt down, and just looked at all its perfectness. I’m just enjoying these flowers before it gets too cold and everything hibernates till spring.

How about you?

I’m a big fan of Dave Navarro of The Launch Coach. He is putting out a product that looks fantastic. It called More Buyers Mastermind. He is gathering 12 of the brightest internet minds around such as Naomi Dunford of IttyBiz, Brian Clark of Copyblogger, Mark Silver of Heart of Business, Charlie Gilkey of Productive Flourishing, Michael Martine of Remarkablogger, Clay Collins of Project Mojav, Chris Guillebeau of Art of Nonconformity, and Pam Slim of Escape From Cubicle Nation, and a few more. He is going to pick their brains and convince them to explain how they made their internet business a reality. (This is not an affiliate link. I just think this will be a great resource.)

  1. The hard thing in my life is to make my dream materialize. Although I’m glad I did make a start, I can’t seem to handle the necessary character elements inherent in the pursuit. 🙂

  2. Great post! This week… It’s been hard being so busy, it’s fun celebrating Boss’s Day today, and it’s beautiful to see all of the changes of fall outside my office window!

  3. Hi,
It’s nice to see the face behind the blog. This is my 2nd chance today to see bloggers on screen which is great. It allows me to connect with the blog better. It also might push me to do the same in the future if I actually have the nerve to do so.
Anyway, dropping my daughter off at college back in September was very HARD. I actually posted an article on my blog back then and it’s under Popular Articles (on the sidebar) if you are interested in reading it. You mentioned that you have a son and he is probably very small but the years fly by, believe me. It has become a little bit easier for me over the past month or so but I still miss her terribly.
Starting a blog has been a challenge but it has been a lot of FUN. It gives me an outlet to write which I really didn’t have before my blog.
I actually look at the Fall as more of a pain than beautiful because I have soooo many leaves to pick up. But I do love the cooler weather and I will take these temps any day (I live in the Northeast U.S.). My youngest daughter is growing up into a BEAUTIFUL young woman and she is also a freshman but in high school. She is a great kid.
Anyway, I really enjoy your blog and the positivity that you present about working. Everyone is so negative about work these days but I’m happy to have a challenging and well-paying job. I have a brother who lost his job about 6 months ago and he wishes he was in my situation.

    Best,
    Bob

  4. Hi Karl

I am glad to hear that you had a nice time at the wedding, but totally can relate about the whole being away – whether it is from your blog or your family.

My week was good, but flew by as if it was 1 day.

The HARD was just trying to juggle all the tasks that I wanted to get done.

The FUN was going with my husband to pick up his new djembe drum – it sounds so good! What awesome beats!

The BEAUTIFUL was getting together with the extended family for our Canadian Thanksgiving this past Monday.

    Wishing you a great weekend!

  5. Hi Walter, You seem to be putting a limit on your talents. You have what it takes if you want it badly enough.

Hi Positively Present, Happy Boss’s Day to all the bosses out there. That would have been a good idea for a post. Next year.

Hi Bob, I can see how watching a kid grow up can be difficult. As parents we want to protect them, but we also know that having them create their own life is more important.

Hi Evita, I’ve never been in Canada during the Canadian Thanks Giving. I bet you had a blast.

  6. Hi Karl,

I just love watching young people at weddings! They are so full of positive energy and joy!

    My week:
I’ll go with the beautiful first: My daughter and 10 month old grandson visiting from Michigan. He is so sweet and on a huge learning curve. My daughter and her wit and watching her interact with her son. Simply priceless and beautiful.

The fun: Being on the floor, crawling through a tunnel, picking up toys at a garage sale that little Henri loves. Singing to him and peek-a-boo and listening to his first word…Papa:)

The hard: Henri getting sick with a cold, ear infection etc. Yet it doesn’t affect his smile or joy.

The beautiful again: Their extended vacation because the doctor said they can’t fly until Tuesday.

The difficult like you…hard to be away from commenting and joining in on all blogging fun!

  7. The HARD: Keeping a positive attitude the past two weeks while on projects at work that feel like damage control.

The FUN: My boyfriend won a free hotel night in Toronto so I’m taking a half day today and we’re headed up with some friends.

The BEAUTIFUL: The fall foliage seems especially bright this year and lightens up my frustrating commute.
